MediaOne, Boston, has launched a new broadband business service called MediaOne Connect, which offers networking services for moving data and uncompressed contribution-quality video at speeds to 622 Mbits/sec via OC-12 (622-Mbit/sec) fiber-optic lines in the metropolitan Los Angeles, CA, area. The network will use its Synchronous Optical Network (sonet) rings for local area network interconnections and national and international access to the Internet. The Internet access can take the form of Internet protocol (IP), packet over sonet, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (atm), or uncompressed video transfer. Customers may choose among three services. With Metronet One, customers can choose atm or IP network services. MediaOne Connect will install a fiber-optic network connection into the customer`s premises and facilitate the configuration of an atm switch, concentrator, or router. Another service, Internet One, is geared toward businesses looking for a dedicated connection to the Internet. And D-One is MediaOne Connect`s uncompressed serial digital video and audio transport service.
