A new U.S.-Canadian industry alliance will form InterconX, a North American Asynchronous Transfer Mode (atm)-based data network. The alliance includes the U.S. firms e.spire (formerly acsi--Annapolis Junction, MD) and ixc Communications (Austin, TX) and fonorola (Montreal) of Canada. The three carriers will merge their networks to provide large-scale atm and frame relay data-network services as well as voice, video, and Internet protocol. InterconX will cover 21,000 route-mi across North America and will accommodate transmission speeds to OC-12 (622 Mbits/sec).
