Huawei to deliver 400-Gbps OTN technology to Telefonica Chile
In what would appear to be an industry first, Huawei says it will help Telefonica Chile deploy a 400-Gbps metro fiber-optic network based on Optical Transport Network (OTN) principles. The network will be rolled out in the capital city of Santiago to support LTE and IPTV services.
The network will support 100-Gbps and 400-Gbps OTN transmission. Standards for 400G OTN have not been created yet, so Huawei will use a proprietary approach to support 400G in that format along with OTN-based multiplexing, cross-connection, and grooming.
"Addressing bandwidth challenges for customers is our strategic focus," said Jack Wang, president of Huawei's transport network product line. "Huawei will continue investing in beyond-100G technology and building information networks as wide as the Pacific Ocean to meet the future needs of the network."
