Yipes expands capacity in Seattle network with multi-protocol capability
Yipes Communications, Inc., a provider of scalable bandwidth on demand, announced it has successfully expanded the capacity of its core network in Seattle by integrating gigabit switch-routers from Extreme Networks with Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment from LuxN.
The deployment of LuxN's DWDM equipment enables Yipes' optical IP core networks, built around Extreme's Black Diamond switches, to scale quickly to handle multiple gigabits-per-second of traffic per fiber. The design of both vendors' equipment, along with Yipes' commitment to advanced network architecture and monitoring, will allow Yipes to maintain its customer service level agreements (SLAs) while increasing network capacity.
The initial deployment in Seattle uses four wavelengths and can readily scale up to 16 with LuxN's equipment. This solution provides a cost-effective alternative to acquiring new fiber in metropolitan markets where customer traffic is growing and fiber supplies are temporarily limited. LuxN's gear also permits provisioning of managed wavelength services, independent of data protocols. Yipes expects to roll out DWDM in several other markets this year, including San Diego, Chicago and Dallas.
Yipes claims to be the first national provider of fully scalable bandwidth on demand, ranging from 1 Mbps to 1 Gbps in 1 Mbps increments. Yipes serves 21 markets across the country with its unique optical IP networks. Its customers include Fortune 1000 companies, real estate companies, financial institutions, ISPs and ASPs, Web-based businesses, software developers, law firms, major medical facilities, universities, school districts and government agencies.
