Reliance Globalcom scales MAN with Juniper
JULY 28, 2008 -- Reliance Globalcom (search for Reliance Globalcom) will upgrade its metro network in the U.S. with Juniper Network's (search for Juniper) MX-series Ethernet Services Routers and M120 Multiservice Edge Routers to support 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and beyond in major metropolitan areas. The upgrade extends Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) to the network edge in an effort to improve network performance and ensure scalability to address forthcoming demands for additional capacity.
Reliance Globalcom is deploying the Juniper Networks MX-series Ethernet Services Routers with its Managed Metro Ethernet service to link multiple enterprise LANs within a single metro are over Ethernet-based metropolitan fiber networks.
Reliance Globalcom is integrating the new Juniper equipment into its Juniper-based global Ethernet VPLS platform. Juniper says that with this deployment, Reliance Globalcom will gain a service-enabling network infrastructure that is capable of scaling to support VoIP, high-definition video conferencing, backup and recovery, electronic trading, and other multi-media business applications. The new network also will ensure carrier-class service reliability.
"Reliance Globalcom prides itself on continually optimizing its networks to offer customers the most in performance and scalability. Juniper's platform enables us to scale our metro area Ethernet network as the need dictates," said Shankar Narayanaswamy, regional vice president, Access Network, Data Division, Reliance Globalcom.
"Reliance Globalcom was one of the first carriers to offer a global VPLS service and strong service level guarantees, which helped put them at the forefront of the managed Ethernet services market,' said Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "By extending the Juniper platform into its metro network, Reliance will be able to support growing critical enterprise applications." According to Infonetics, Ethernet service revenues grew 33% last year and will continue to grow to $30 billion by 2011.
