Telco Systems says it has completed deployment of a new 10 Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure for the Kenya Education Network (KENET). The Kenyan National Research and Education Network (NREN) research and education network made the move to Carrier Ethernet in place of its previous Layer 3 transport network, according to the systems house.
The non-profit operator's new Carrier Ethernet network initially provides internet access and data center interconnect to all the universities and research institutes in Kenya. Telco Systems says the network could be extended to supply connectivity to other educational institutions in the country, including the primary and secondary schools.
Telco Systems installed its T-Metro 8001 10 Gigabit Ethernet service aggregation platforms and T-Marc 3348S 10 Gigabit Ethernet demarcation devices to support delivery of certified CE 2.0 services based on VPLS. Telco Systems adds that KENET will use the EdgeGenie Orchestrator management system for service provisioning.
"Telco Systems' impressive track record of delivering solid and affordable communications networking technology attracted us to working with the company," said Professor Meoli Kashorda, executive director of KENET. "We are confident that Telco Systems and its technology will support our growth plans and contribute to helping us fulfill our mission of providing high quality communications services to all the educational institutions in our country."
