dichroma Inc., Alexandria, VA, has selected Racal Data Group, Sunrise, FL, as its primary subcontractor in an effort to replace aging twisted-pair copper-cable systems with fiber-optic networks at U.S. Air National Guard bases. As part of its multiyear, multimillion dollar contract, dichroma will design, procure, install, and maintain fiber-optic backbones for voice, video, and data at any of the 100 or more bases nationwide. Racal Data Group was chosen to furnish equipment, service, and training and will provide its PremNet fiber-optic multiplexer and channel bank equipment for use in the fiber backbones. The system supports sonet, atm, and T3 (44.736 Mbits/sec) as link interfaces and applications or input/output interfaces of voice, video, and data. By using sonet technology, the system can be scaled to hundreds of nodes with bandwidth of OC-3 (155 Mbits/sec) to OC-48 (2.5 Gbits/sec).
