The Gigabit Ethernet Alliance postponed the March ratification of the ieee 802.3¥draft standard

April 1, 1998

The Gigabit Ethernet Alliance postponed the March ratification of the ieee 802.3¥draft standard (Gigabit Ethernet) to June. Between March and May, the Gigabit Ethernet Task Force of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will follow a work plan to resolve outstanding issues, such as a technical problem regarding differential mode delay in multimode fiber links. Despite the delay, the ieee 802.3¥draft standard passed sponsor ballot on January 26, meaning that issues such as media access control and areas of the physical layer were resolved by the task force. The fiber link distance for 1000Base-LX over 62.5-micron multimode fiber was increased to 550 m, based on additional field-testing.
