TIA Publishes new standard TIA/EIA-455-58B
July 20, 2001--The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has published a new standard for Graded-Index Optical Fibers.
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has published a new standard, "FOTP-58: Core Diameter Measurement of Graded-Index Optical Fibers," TIA/EIA-455-58B, created by TIA FO-6.6 Subcommittee on Fibers and Materials. The document is a revision of TIA/EIA-455-58A.
FOTP-58 applies only to multimode, graded-index glass-core glass-clad fibers. It gives three methods for determining the core diameter of graded-index optical fibers having near-parabolic index profiles: method A -- index profile, refracted ray scanning; method B -- near-field radiation pattern, one-dimensional scan; and method C -- near-field radiation pattern, two-dimensional automated grey-scale analysis.
