Superior TeleCom Inc. (NYSE: SUT), through its Superior Essex Communications Group, announced its new ultra high bandwidth TeraGain XT fiber optic cable product line for LAN applications. The 62.5 micron TeraGain XT fiber line is engineered to provide bandwidth of 250 megahertz per kilometer (MHz*km) at the 850 nanometer (nm) wavelength and 1200 MHz*km at the 1300 nanometer wavelength. Superior claims it is the highest bandwidth 62.5 micron fiber product on the market.
TeraGain XT supports the IEEE 802.3z Gigabit Ethernet standard to distances of 625 meters (m) at 850nm and 1225m at 1300nm, which are greater than two times the industry standard of 200m and 500m for the respective wavelengths. The bandwidth capabilities of TeraGain XT 62.5 micron fiber also provide for significant headroom that may be required by future applications. TeraGain XT is available in both 50 micron and 62.5 micron fiber designs, including simplex, duplex, zipcord, quad, distribution, riser, and indoor/outdoor loose tube cable constructions.
