MARCH 17, 2009 -- TeraXion Inc. (search Lightwave for TeraXion) has announced the introduction of static dispersion compensation products for outside plant (OSP) applications.

With the current trend to increase both capacity and reach of optical communication systems, chromatic dispersion impairments quickly become a limiting factor for CATV networks. TeraXion's static dispersion compensators designed for outside plant applications allow network operators to seamlessly upgrade their existing infrastructure to higher RF frequencies over longer distances with a minimal impact on loss budget, the company says.

TeraXion adds its static dispersion compensators combine ultra-low insertion loss and high tolerance to optical power in a small form factor package.

"A typical insertion loss of 2 dB for dispersion levels between 20 and 100 km combined with its stable dispersion compensation over an operating temperature ranging from -40 to +85°C makes our static dispersion compensators the ideal choice for analog communications applications" said Dr. Martin Guy, vice-president of product management and technology at TeraXion.

The small form factors of the ClearSpectrum DCX and DCMX also facilitate the integration with other system modules such as optical amplifiers, the company concludes.

The ClearSpectrum dispersion compensation product line will be on display at the 2009 OFC/NFOEC exhibition, Booth 1744.
