JUNE 19, 2009 -- GigOptix Inc. (search Lightwave for GigOptix), a provider of electronic engines for optical networking, announces that optical communications expert Alan Willner has joined the GigOptix Advisory Board.
Willner is currently professor of electrical engineering at the University of Southern California. He received his PhD in electrical engineering from Columbia University and was a postdoctoral member of the technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories (Crawford Hill) and a member of technical staff at Bellcore.
Willner -- also a member of Lightwave's editorial advisory board -- is active in the academic community conducting research in optical communications, optical signal processing, optical networks, fiber optics, and optical device technologies. His professional positions have included president of the IEEE Photonics Society, co-chair of the Optical Society of America (OSA) Science and Engineering Council, and general co-chair of the Conference of Lasers and Electro Optics (CLEO), among others.
"I have been watching with interest the technology being developed by GigOptix as it has the potential to resolve some of the major challenges facing optical communications," says Willner. "I am very excited to be engaged with such a talented team."
"We are immensely honored to have such a renowned expert in optical communications as Professor Willner accept our invitation to join the GigOptix advisory board," says Andrea Betti-Berutto, chief technology officer of GigOptix. "We look forward to a mutually rewarding collaboration."
