Single-fiber transceivers support up to 10 customers at 75-km distances

MAY 18, 2009 -- Optical Zonu's new transceivers incorporate digital diagnostics monitoring for SONET OC-3/12 and Gigabit Ethernet single-SKU optical links.

MAY 18, 2009 -- Optical Zonu Corp. (OZC; search Lightwave for Optical Zonu), a supplier of single-fiber SFP transceivers, has released its new dual-rate, single-fiber, full-duplex, CWDM (SFC) transceiver with SFP-MSA digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM). Having the identical transceiver at both the central office/hub and customer premises, says OZC, allows for a true single-SKU optical link.

The SFC transceivers work in conjunction with OZC's optical multiplexer/demultiplexers to support up to 10 business-class SONET/SDH or Gigabit Ethernet customers on a single fiber with full duplex operation over LR reference link distances (75 km). When installed in network equipment with an SFP-MSA digital diagnostic monitoring I2C interface, the devices provide the data input required for the system to support the operations, administration, and maintenance (OAM) features of the IEEE 802.3ah and ITU Y.1731 standards.

"For cell tower backhaul applications, our service provider customers saw a need to support specific SONET/SDH and Ethernet protocols in the same equipment installation," notes Mike Hartmann, vice president of sales and marketing for OZC. "With our dual-rate SFC transceivers, our service provider customers need only source a single 'SKU,' which can populate the MSA SFP ports of any of the SONET OC-3/12, SDH STM-1/4, or Gigabit Ethernet line cards of their network equipment chassis and still maintain the cost advantages of SFC."

Delivery is 6 to 8 weeks ARO.
