PMC-Sierra, Sigma Designs demo end-to-end FTTx and HomePNA for cable-TV networks
OCTOBER 5, 2010 -- PMC-Sierra, Inc. (Nasdaq: PMCS) and Sigma Designs, Inc. (Nasdaq:SIGM) say they will offer a live demonstration of an EPON and a HomePNA Fast Ethernet over Coax (EoC) approach that will provide cable operators with end-to-end capabilities and enable FTTx deployments. The companies will demonstrate this approach at P&T/ExpoComm China 2010 from October 11-15, 2010.
The joint demonstration will showcase PMC-Sierra's end-to-end EPON chipset based on 1G or 10G EPON technology with Sigma's CG3210M Fast EoC chipset. The combination offers high-quality video distribution, easy provisioning, QoS, and high reliability for multi-dwelling units (MDUs) in the China cable-TV environment, the two companies assert.
As the demand for triple-play services to multiple dwelling units (MDUs) at higher bandwidth also continues to grow, PON and EoC technologies are being evaluated as an efficient method of driving fiber deeper into the networks. The two companies say the combination of PMC-Sierra's EPON and 10G EPON devices and Sigma's HomePNA Fast EoC offering for MDUs will help enable lower cost, higher performance EPON deployments based on current standards.
"This demonstration shows how the combination of PMC's PON expertise can be combined with Sigma's EoC technology to deliver a solution that is ideal for China's nationwide Three Network Convergence project," said Raphael Sankar, vice president and co-general manager of PMC-Sierra's FTTH division.
