MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. has announced its chipset family designed to enable mainstream 10G passive optical network (PON) deployment. MACOM says the portfolio is the industry's first for 10G-PON applications and enables optical line terminals (OLTs) and optical network units (ONUs).
The company says its chipset family enables component integration and cost-efficiencies for acceleration of 10G-PON infrastructure build-outs. The product family combines the scalability features of electro-optic modulated lasers (EOMLs) with a wide range of prequalified, interoperable APDs, TIAs, laser drivers, and CDRs. The 10G-PON chipset family for OLTs and ONUs includes the following products:
· M02180 10G/10G burst-mode laser driver and limiting amplifier with integrated CDR
· MATA-02135 10G TIA
· MATA-02238 10.3G dual-rate burst-mode TIA
· MAMF-011095 L-PIC controller chip
· M02172 11.3G EML driver with single 3.3 V supply
· M02142 11.3G burst-mode limiting amplifier
· 127D-021-VT5AB 2.5-Gbps, 1270-nm directly modulated DFB NFF laser diode chips
· 157D-10C-LT6CD EOML L-PIC
· 127D-10I-LTSCC 10-Gbps directly modulated DFB laser diode devices at 1270 nm
· APB10B and APB10B/ES avalanche photodiode chip or CoC.
MACOM's 10G-PON family leverages the company's L-PIC technology platform and patented Etched Facet Technology for high-volume, low-cost laser manufacturing. The company says it is the only supplier providing the entire range of 10G-PON components, while providing EOML technology that addresses the performance, yield, and cost limiting challenges of electro-absorptive modulated lasers (EMLs).
"The shift to 10G-PON is underway with initial deployments in all major regions worldwide. The current 2.5G-PON infrastructure cannot meet continuing bandwidth growth from both residential and nonresidential subscribers and applications" said Julie Kunstler, Ovum's principal analyst. "In the ultra-cost sensitive, highly-competitive fiber access market, MACOM's technology and product developments to minimize both integration complexities and costs while reducing deployments times will be well received."
MACOM will showcase its 10G-PON chipset family at ECOC (September 17 – 21, Gothenburg, Sweden, Booth #117). Sample components are currently available to customers, and a full production is planned for 1H 2018.
