COTAS chooses ECI, Siscotec for fiber-optic network expansion

June 28, 2018
ECI said that COTAS has chosen the company and its partner Siscotec to expand the Bolivian triple-play service provider's fiber-optic network to address growing business and residential customer demand. COTAS also will be able to advance telecommunications services in remote, underserved areas through the fiber network expansion.

Optical transport systems vendor ECI said that COTAS has chosen the company and its partner Siscotec to expand the Bolivian triple-play service provider's fiber-optic network to address growing business and residential customer demand. COTAS also will be able to advance telecommunications services in remote, underserved areas through the fiber network expansion.

ECI says it will supply its Apollo optical transport and switching platforms, including the Apollo 9904X, for use on two long-haul paths. The systems will work in combination with Neptune portfolio packet transport platforms for migrating current services and enabling end-to-end service provisioning.

The optical systems vendor asserts COTAS chose the Apollo optical platforms for their ability to interwork smoothly, delivering scalable, energy-efficient, and high-density performance from access to core. That includes the ability of the Apollo 9904X to extend OTN switching benefits to metro networks with fluctuating, variable demand.

In addition to the supply of hardware, ECI will offer consulting, support, and on-going training to COTAS alongside Siscotec, a telecommunications technology provider for networking, infrastructure, data center, and ISP applications.

In MarchECI announced the availability of network interface upgrades for the Neptune family and its Apollo optical transport and switching family (see "ECI announces network interface upgrades to meet capability growth demands of service providers"). The NPT-1300 platform is the latest addition to its Neptune packet-optical transport line of products for supporting various service needs on right-size platforms that can evolve with in-service expansions, embedded NFVi hardware, and SDN.
