Picosecond Pulse Labs launches high-performance 15-GHz broadband linear amplifier

March 12, 2003
March 12, 2003--Picosecond Pulse Labs has announced the availability of the Model 5867 linear amplifier, which it claims is virtually distortion-free, enabling amplification without adding unwanted changes to the original signal. This makes it ideal for 10-Gbit/sec fiber-optic receivers, high-speed test and measurement, and general-purpose linear amplification in the lab.

Picosecond Pulse Labs, designer and manufacturer of high-speed electronic components and test equipment, has announced the availability of the Model 5867 linear amplifier. The 5867 is virtually distortion-free, enabling amplification without adding unwanted changes to the original signal. This makes it an excellent choice for 10-Gbit/sec fiber-optic receivers, high-speed test and measurement, and general-purpose linear amplification in the lab.

According to the company, the Model 5867 provides 15 GHz of bandwidth and 15 dB of gain with excellent gain flatness ( ± 0.3 dB). The amplifier demonstrates exceptional linear phase performance with only ± degrees deviation from flat and excellent low frequency performance with a low frequency 3-dB point of 10 kHz. A built-in peak RF detector is included, allowing for easy monitoring of RF power.

The product is packaged in a small, coaxial housing with SMA connectors. Supply voltages are 8 V and -5 V and the typical power dissipation is 1 W.

The Model 5867 linear amplifier is a natural complement to the Model 5865 modulator driver previously introduced by Picosecond Pulse Labs, say company representatives.
