Scintera unveils updated 10GBASE-LRM compliant EDC device

November 21, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Scintera has announced the immediate availability of its updated SCN3142 Electronic Dispersion Compensation Engine (EDCE). The company says the device is designed to meet the comprehensive stressed receiver requirements defined in the latest specification of the IEEE 802.3aq 10GBASE- LRM standard, which defines a low-cost physical layer interface for 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) over legacy multimode fiber, allowing enterprises to utilize existing fiber infrastructures to upgrade their networks.

According to the company, based on its Gigabit Signal Processor CMOS technology, the SCN3142 combines "plug and play" operation, robust adaptation, and low power to enable delivery of low-cost 10GBASE-LRM optical transceivers. The company says the IC provides the basis for a flexible platform due to its small size (5-mm x 5-mm package) and low 700-mW power dissipation. According to the company, using the device, customers can save engineering resources and reduce time to market in generating transceivers with multiple form factors, including XENPAK, X2, and XFP.

"The market is ripe for a low-cost version of 10 GbE that can be utilized by the existing fiber installations in the enterprise. Using a serial implementation, 10GBASE-LRM provides the economics, power, and form factor to enable ubiquitous deployment," says John Monson, vice president of marketing at Scintera.

Available now, SCN3142 comes in a 32-pin QFN package.
