II‐VI aims new optical components, amplification devices at CFP2-ACO optical transceivers

Dec. 17, 2015
II‐VI Inc. (NASDAQ:IIVI) has unveiled a line of optical components and amplification products for use in CFP2-ACO (Analog Coherent Optics) pluggable optical transceivers. The wide-ranging portfolio aims to perform a variety of functions, such as increase optical signal strength, equalize the optical spectrum, maintain optical polarization states, filter out optical noise, and prevent undesired optical reflections.

The line of small, hybrid, and tunable optical components and optical amplification devices includes:

  • 980-nm uncooled pump lasers in an eight-pin mini-DIL package
  • Integrated isolator and gain flattening filter (IGFF) hybrid devices
  • Integrated isolator and wavelength-division multiplexer (IWDM) devices
  • Tunable optical filters for optical noise suppression
  • Prismatic polarization maintaining couplers
  • Innovative miniaturized custom amplifiers.

All of the new devices are Telcordia qualified and commercially available, II-VI says.

The CFP2-ACO transceiver form factor is finding wide acceptance among systems designers and their customers for their lower cost and smaller footprint compared to previous generations of coherent optical modules. "II-VI serves the CFP2-ACO market with the smallest commercially available 980-nm pump laser in the world, a multi-function micro-optics packaging platform, unique wavelength-tunable components and novel optical amplifier subsystem solutions," asserts Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, vice president, product marketing and strategy, Optical Communications Group at II-VI.
