NOVEMBER 11, 2008 -- GigOptix LLC (search for GigOptix), provider of electronic engines for the optically connected digital world, and Multiplex Inc. (search for Multiplex), provider of vertically integrated optical subsystems and components, today announced a strategic partnership.

Multiplex has begun high volume production using the GigOptix GX6120 in its subsystem products. The GX6120 is an external driver for Electro-Absorption (EA) modulators operating at data rates up to 11.3 Gbits/sec. Multiplex says its subsystem product line is comprised of high-performance, cost-effective single-channel and tunable XFP and 300-pin MSA transponder products for 10G applications operating up to 80 km.

The GX6120 drives EA modulators used in metro OC-192 optical modules and line cards. The differential driver produces a single-ended output voltage up to 2.5 Vpp, and both the inputs and outputs are AC coupled. Typical power consumption is 580 mW at 2.3 Vpp. The output is connected through a bias tee to a 3.3V Vcc bias.

"Multiplex chose the GX6120 for its superior performance and value in the market," reports Dan Meerovich, vice president of manufacturing operations at Multiplex. "We continue to work with GigOptix because of the wide variety of products they offer and the fact that they listen closely to what we need as their customer."

"Working closely with Multiplex, we are able to ensure that our products are the best suited to meet their needs," adds Vivek Rajgarhia, vice president of global sales at GigOptix. "We are proud that they have selected our GX6120, and we look forward to future successful product introductions."

The GX6120 is now in mass production and available as both a die and a RoHS-6-compliant, 4- x 4-mm surface-mount QFN package.
