Proximion launches single-channel DCM

SEPTEMBER 3, 2008 -- The single-channel dispersion compensation module is designed to deliver increased flexibility and superior performance in a small form factor. In addition, the wide optical bandwidth and the low group delay ripple ensure high transmission quality.

SEPTEMBER 3, 2008 -- Proximion Fiber Systems AB (search for Proximion) has debuted a new single-channel dispersion compensation module (DCM-SC). The DCM-SC is designed to deliver increased flexibility and superior performance in a small form factor. In addition, the wide optical bandwidth and the low group delay ripple ensure high transmission quality, according to Proximion.

The DCM-SC extends single-channel SDH/SONET/GE system reach otherwise limited by the dispersion tolerance of the transceivers. The low loss of the DCM-SC enables a obviates the need for amplifiers in a cost-effective way. Proximion offers the option of different customized wavelengths suitable for other applications and network configurations.

Proximion says its proprietary fiber Bragg grating manufacturing technology produces high-performance dispersion compensation modules with the advantages of having no non-linear effects or latency and having a very low power loss compared to the alternative of traditional dispersion compensating fibers (DCFs).

DCM-SC is currently available on volume basis.
