Israeli optical subsystems vendor Civcom says it will join such larger vendors as Oclaro and Fujitsu Optical Components in offering a 100-Gbps optical transponder. The company plans to take the wraps off of its widely tunable transponder at ECOC next week.

The Civcom optical transponder uses dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) with DSP-based coherent detection to support 100-Gbps data rates on a 50-GHz grid without the need for additional optical compensation to overcome chromatic and polarization-mode dispersion. (It also can support DP-DQPSK.) It has a dispersion tolerance range of ±40,000 ps/nm. The use of soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) improves OSNR performance.

"Civcom remains ahead of its competition by using its vast R&D know-how and experience to provide market leading, competitive solutions for 100G coherent networks,” asserts Gabby Shpirer, CEO of Civcom. “100-Gbps coherent networks are expected to be the growth engine of the industry in the coming years. By introducing the 100G DP-QPSK, Civcom positions itself as a leader in the tunable transponder market.”
