The T64X0003 transponder is a 10-GBIT/s bidirectional module designed to provide a SONET/SDH compliant electro-optical interface between the OC-192 SONET/SDH photonic physical layer and the electrical section layer. It receives and transmits a 9.95328-Gbit/s optical signal and converts it into an electrical signal, extracts a clock signal, then demultiplexes the data into 16 622-Mbit/s data signals. The transponder combines functions such as clock synthesis and recovery circuitry as well as multiplexing and demultiplexing for 16 channels into a single package that measures approximately 4.5 × 3.5 in. The optical receiver is available with a PIN photodiode and operates over the 1.1- to 1.6-µm-wavelength range.
