MARCH 21, 2007 -- Syntune AB (search for Syntune), developer of single-chip tunable lasers and transmitters, today announced it is sampling the S4500, which it claims is the world's first truly monolithic, integrated 10-Gbit/sec tunable transmitter.

The S4500 is a full C-Band tunable transmitter based on a single chip and placed in a compact form factor package designed for incorporation into a SFF 300-pin transponder and other small form factor packages.

Syntune says its patented monolithic design minimizes size, power consumption, and cost while allowing the fastest possible tuning speeds. The S4500 operates between -5 to 75 ° C with typical power consumption of less than 2.0 Watts and a maximum power consumption of 3.6 Watts at 75 ° C. Driven with a push-pull RF signal, the S4500 works as a zero chirp transmitter with high extinction ratio and low dispersion penalty across a dispersion range from -800 to +800 ps/nm.

Products using Syntune's S4500 widely tunable transmitter are an effective replacement for the hundreds of fixed wavelength WDM devices employed in current telecom systems, claim company representatives.

"We are already experiencing the exploding demand for widely tunable CW lasers," notes Patrik Evaldsson, CEO of Syntune. "Now our customers can now take advantage of this unique technology to reduce size and cost to their systems."

Syntune says it has chosen premier manufacturing partners, such as CyOptics Inc., to ensure a consistently reliable product. Syntune's products are manufactured on mature processes both in the laser production and packaging that have been used on products with over 120 billion device service hours in the most sophisticated telecommunication systems worldwide.
