OCP unveils SFP transceivers for Gigabit Ethernet CWDM and single-wavelength applications

July 15, 2004 Woodland Hills, CA -- Optical Communication Products Inc., manufacturer of fiber-optic subsystems and modules for metropolitan, local, and storage area networks, has announced the expansion of its Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) product line with the addition of Very Long Haul (VLH) SFPs designed for Gigabit Ethernet up to 120-km transmission distance.

July 15, 2004 Woodland Hills, CA -- Optical Communication Products Inc., manufacturer of fiber-optic subsystems and modules for metropolitan, local, and storage area networks, has announced the expansion of its Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) product line with the addition of Very Long Haul (VLH) SFPs designed for Gigabit Ethernet up to 120-km transmission distance.

The VLH SFP transceivers are available for either single channel or Coarse WDM (CWDM) applications. In addition, they have integrated Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) functionality.

"We continue to expand our product portfolio to address an ever changing market," reports Kirk Bovill, OCP director of marketing, "The Gigabit Ethernet space requires a high-density, pluggable option that extends beyond the existing 80-km link, and we have been able to provide the solution to address up to 120 km for both single channel and CWDM solutions."

The VLH SFP transceiver design uses a 1550-nm distributed feedback (DFB) laser with an integrated optical isolator and a high sensitivity Avalanche Photodiode (APD) receiver to provide a minimum link budget of 32 dB. The VLH SFP CWDM option offers eight wavelength channels compliant with ITU-G.694.2 wavelength standard.

The DDM functionality adheres to the SFF-8472, Revision 9.3 specification and enables the end-user to monitor five key areas in the performance of the SFP transceiver: internal temperature, DC supply voltage, transmitter bias current, transmitter output power, and receive optical signal level. Integrated DDM functionality also incorporates warnings and alarms to monitor these parameters.
