Smartoptics offers DCP-404 4x100G muxponder

SmartOptics envisions the DCP-404 finding use in metro networks, where it promises ease of use, cost efficiency, and low latency.

Open optical systems specialist Smartoptics (Euronext: SMOP) has unveiled the DCP-404 muxponder. The muxponder will aggregate four 100G wavelengths into a single 400G DWDM transmission stream. SmartOptics envisions the DCP-404 finding use in metro networks, where it promises ease of use, cost efficiency, and low latency.

The DCP-404 Layer 1 muxponder offers OpenZR+ capabilities. With support for four QSFP28 100G client links and a coherent 400ZR/ZR+ QSFP-DD 400G line-side interface, the muxponder provides the flexibility to aggregate 100G traffic into 100G, 200G, 300G, or 400G DWDM wavelengths, SmartOptics says.

“With the capability to use four times 100G over a 400G line, the DCP-404 increases fiber utilization, providing more capacity per wavelength at a lower latency then a traditional muxponder. This will serve as a key enabler for larger and more complex network deployments. When combined with our DCP-R family of ROADMs, the DCP-404 is a significant upgrade to our metro network offering,” says Kent Lidström, CTO Smartoptics.

“With no configuration needed at all and high flexibility in terms of supported optics, the DCP-404 is designed to be as easy to deploy and use as possible,” Lidström continued. “The muxponder is unique in offering QSFP-DD line support, and when combined with industry-leading low power consumption, it offers unmatched cost efficiency.
