May 3, 2005 Stockholm, Sweden -- Denmark's Mobile Operator 3 (3) has selected Transmode to supply transmission equipment for its optical network. According to a press release, the carrier's order includes software and hardware to support four secure network rings for backhauling SDH and Gigabit Ethernet traffic to a central network hub, over two fiber pairs. The equipment will be deployed throughout Denmark.
According to the release, Transmode will provide 28 nodes, covering the Sjaelland and Jutland fiber networks; each collector node includes one protected STM-16 channel up to the network hub. The company's one-card STM-16 channel Muxponder and Double Dual Gigabit Ethernet card for CWDM enable up to 336 protected STM-1 channels in all of the network's rings. For management, the company's end-to-end optical circuit monitoring system will be deployed.
"The support and services from Transmode, as well as the reliability and the robustness of the Transmode all-in-one system, is well suited to our high demands," remarks Esbjörn Nordesjö, head of network engineering at 3's Nordic headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.
According to the company, its Muxponder card enables efficient delivery of all high-speed network services. The company says the card carries multiple channels on a single wavelength, allowing carriers and network operators to cost-effectively aggregate channels while transporting SDH/SONET traffic in a metro network. The company says the card frees up wavelengths for new services, while eliminating the need for SDH/SONET multiplexing equipment and multiple transponders.
"Our platform gives 3 substantial cost benefits, and offers a future-proof, scalable solution that can accommodate different signal formats," concludes Pär Johanson, Transmode's director of sales.
