Variable attenuator

The Shadow-15 variable attenuator is designed for power-control applications in fiber-optic transmitters, amplifiers, and receivers and is suitable for dense wavelength-division multiplexing systems. With no moving parts, the attenuator enables electronic control of signal attenuation to -20 dB in optical fiber across the EDFA C-band, with minimal wavelength-dependent ripple and low PDL, according to the manufacturer. The component also features insertion loss of -0.05 dB. The device delivers a flat attenuation profile over the 1530- to 1565-nm window.
