The Connecticut State Department of Transportation will use the sonetlynx fiber-optic multiplexer

July 1, 1998

The Connecticut State Department of Transportation will use the sonetlynx fiber-optic multiplexer from Intelect Network Technologies (Richardson, TX) to support the state`s new digital highway advisory radio service. The multiplexers will be installed in a 40-mi sonet network system along the Connecticut Turnpike, from Darien to New Haven. The network, planned to be operational this year, will transmit data at OC-3 (155 Mbits/sec). It will use previously unused fiber-optic lines that were installed earlier along the turnpike as part of the state`s separate highway surveillance network in 1994. The digital service, faster than its analog predecessors, allows drivers to set radios to a particular AM radio frequency to hear road and traffic advisories.
