PMC-Sierra unveils metro transport framers

1 October 2003 Santa Clara, CA Lightwave -- PMC-Sierra Inc. has introduced the PM5319 ARROW 622 and PM5320 ARROW 155 Metro access and transport framers for use in an array of SONET/SDH applications including add/drop multiplexers, terminal multiplexers, customer premise equipment, DSLAMs, media gateways, multi-service provisioning platforms, multi-service switches, and digital cross-connects.

1 October 2003 Santa Clara, CA Lightwave -- PMC-Sierra Inc. has introduced the PM5319 ARROW 622 and PM5320 ARROW 155 Metro access and transport framers for use in an array of SONET/SDH applications including add/drop multiplexers, terminal multiplexers, customer premise equipment, DSLAMs, media gateways, multi-service provisioning platforms, multi-service switches, and digital cross-connects.

The ARROW 622 and ARROW 155 devices support a range of optical and electrical interfaces (OC-12/STM-4, OC-3/STM-1, EC-1, DS3, and E3) and enable OEMs to lower design and manufacturing costs across multiple platforms while improving system performance, flexibility, and time-to-market. The low power and tiny size of the ARROW 622 and ARROW 155 devices provide more than a 50% improvement over existing solutions, claim company representatives, allowing higher density designs with greater flexibility. The pin-compatible devices are packaged in a 15mm x 15mm CABGA package with a typical power consumption of less than 1.5 W.

"The new ARROW metro transport framers join our portfolio of over 175 standards-based IC solutions to provide our service provider customers with advanced, flexible architecture solutions they can deploy in network trials today."

The ARROW 622 and ARROW 155 are the industry's most flexible transport and termination devices for carrier-grade networks, says the company, simultaneously supporting SONET/SDH network interfaces andIDS3, E3, and EC-1 transport. The ARROW 622 integrates a full-featured SONET/SDH interface, software-selectable between 155.52 Mbits/sec and 622.08 Mbits/sec while the ARROW 155's SONET/SDH interface is limited to 155.52 Mbits/sec. Both devices integrate a three-port interface for transport and termination of EC-1, DS3, and E3 signals in STS-1/AU-3 and TU-3 U payloads with full performance monitoring and standards-compliant jitter and wander performance. A flexible 8-bit, 77.76-MHz TelecomBus system interface provides connectivity to downstream devices, and an STS-1/AU-3 granularity cross-connect offers flexible mixing of STS-1/AU-3 timeslots between the three interfaces.

The PM5319 ARROW 622 and PM5320 ARROW 155 devices are priced at $120 and $60 in 1,000-unit quantities, respectively. A comprehensive support product package, including datasheets, application notes, device models, and software driver, is also available.
