Sept. 27, 2001
Sept. 27, 2001--C-COR.net announced that the Company, in partnership with Siemens ICN, a division of Siemens AG, will upgrade cable networks for Kabel Hessen GmbH & Co. KG, owner and operator of a cable television network in Germany.

C-COR.net (NASDAQ: CCBL) announced that the Company, in partnership with Siemens ICN, a division of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), will upgrade cable networks for Kabel Hessen GmbH & Co. KG, owner and operator of the cable television network in the German province of Hessen. The contract, signed with iesy, Kabel Hessen's new umbrella brand for its network's voice, video and data services, covers the first stage of upgrades in Hessen. The contract also provides for negotiations on future phased-in network expansion throughout the Hessen region.

During the first phase of the project, scheduled for completion by June 2002, the existing 450 MHz coaxial cable network will be upgraded to a bi-directional 862 MHz HFC (hybrid fiber coaxial) broadband network supporting a variety of advanced services, such as interactive and digital TV, high-speed Internet access, and IP telephony. Once implemented, services on the new network will be available to approximately 100,000 subscribers. C-COR will supply headend optical products, fiber optical nodes, and amplifiers for the upgrade project. Siemens will be responsible for the management and system integration functions of the project.

C-COR equipment used in the Hessen network upgrade will include I-Flex II Nodes and Bridger Amplifiers; and lumaCOR 3RU Universal Chassis, 1310 nm DFB Optical Transmitters, 1550 nm Externally Modulated Optical Transmitters, 1550 nm Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs), 1310/1550 nm Optical Dual Return Path Receivers, and 1310/1550 nm Optical Redundant Forward Path Receivers. Both the I-Flex and lumaCOR product lines provide the high-performance and modularity needed for advanced fiber optic transmission and distribution systems. In addition, C-COR will provide the network with an element management system compatible with the emerging HMS (Hybrid Management Sub-Layer) industry standard.
