LIGHTech Fiberoptics, Inc, a source for optical switching components, variable optical attenuators, integrated optical modules and test equipment, unveiled the LT3500 Smart VOA Array product series. The Smart VOA product series integrates up to 8 VOAs per module with a built-in attenuation control circuit and calibration data storage device. A single RS 232 interface allows for easy integration into complex network systems.

The LT3500 eliminates the requirement for the system developer to design and implement custom VOA calibration, data storage and control circuitry. Systems incorporating LIGHTech's newest VOA product will benefit from the improved repeatability and reduced VOA failure rate offered by the integrated functions of the Smart VOA product series. LT3500 features insertion loss of 0.35dB, precise attenuation resolution of <0.1dB and low wavelength dependent loss of <0.2dB. Wavelength windows from 1280nm to 1340nm and from 1525nm to 1565nm are available. The LT3500 family is designed for use in power management applications including optical Add/Drop Multiplexers, Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA), and channel balancing in DWDM systems.
