MARCH 3, 2008 -- RED-C Optical Networks Ltd. (search for RED-C) and Proximion (search for Proximion) will cooperate in promoting an EDFA design optimized to take advantage of the unique properties of dispersion compensation module (DCM) technology.

Proximion says that DCM technology based on fiber Bragg gratings enjoys a number of advantages versus conventional dispersion compensating fiber (DCF), such as much reduced insertion loss, negligible optical delay, and high optical power tolerance. Meanwhile, RED-C asserts that EDFAs optimized to take advantage of these properties offer significant cost savings and reduced footprint, as well as providing performance advantages with respect to noise figure and transient suppression.

The two companies believe that their partnership will meet the emerging need to design subsystems for increased optimization. Combining Proximion's DCM technology with RED-C's amplifier designs will provide an additional step toward improving cost/performance ratios, they add.

Proximion's DCM offerings include the continuous band DCM-CB, the HDCM, and new channelized DCM-ITU. The company claims "volume deliveries to major system vendors."
