Summary

Given the lower population densities and remote nature, the critical challenge to serve the rural market has been cost. The U.S. government hopes to change that through programs like ReConnect and the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. But even before BEAD gets implemented next year, rural broadband operators are aggressively deploying fiber-based broadband networks.

A recent Center on Rural Innovation (CORI) study finds that rural counties with high broadband adoption rates of over 80% have significant advantages over those with low usage. To overcome the challenges of deploying fiber deployments, vendors are developing programs to help rural broadband players accelerate rural broadband deployments.

Luis has participated on numerous industry panels around fiber technology, bringing to the stage his field experience on FTTH construction and maintenance, especially over new topologies, like xTAP cascaded taps.
