As network operators deploy higher fiber-count cables to support AI, cloud, broadband, and high-density access demands, resilience planning becomes more critical than ever. Restoring a 1,728-fiber cable is vastly different from restoring a 144-fiber cable, making cable selection, installation practices, protection strategy, and inventory readiness essential parts of network design.  

This webinar will explore how high-density fiber optic cable designs can improve survivability while balancing protection, diameter, bend performance, and standards compliance. We will review armored and compact cable options, the role of bend-insensitive fiber, splice-closure preparation, microcable protection considerations, and practical steps to help safeguard critical infrastructure during installation and throughout its service life.  

The session will also highlight Prysmian’s Alesea reel-tracking system, which uses GPS-enabled smart devices, sensors, cloud infrastructure, and a web platform to provide near real-time visibility into cable drum location, potential theft or tampering, drum usage, and remaining cable volume. Attendees will leave with practical considerations for selecting, protecting, identifying, and managing high-density cable assets before, during, and after deployment.

Matthew Brice is the North America Telecom Technical Marketing Senior Manager at Prysmian, where he helps network operators, broadband providers, utilities, and infrastructure partners select and deploy fiber optic cable solutions for high-density telecommunications networks.  

Based in Highland Heights, Kentucky, Brice brings a practical, field-informed perspective to the challenges of building scalable, reliable networks in increasingly fiber-dense environments. His work focuses on aligning cable design, pathway constraints, installation methods, bend-performance requirements, and long-term network protection strategies with the real-world needs of service providers and network builders.

In his current role, Brice works closely with Prysmian’s application engineering, product management, sales, and manufacturing teams to translate complex technical requirements into practical solutions that support faster deployment, easier maintenance, and improved network resiliency. His areas of focus include high-density loose-tube and ribbon cable platforms, outside plant design considerations, installation performance, network scalability, and product selection for demanding broadband applications.
