Deutsche Telekom migrates to Ixia 10GbE test gear

JUNE 28, 2010 -- Ixia says that Deutsche Telekom AG will migrate to Ixia's newly announced NGY high-density 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) test portfolio. JUNE 28, 2010 -- Ixia (NASDAQ: XXIA) says that Deutsche Telekom AG will migrate to Ixia's newly announced NGY high-density 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) test portfolio. The NGY hardware is designed to provide a seamless integration path for customers who want to take advantage of previous investment in IxN2X software and test scripting while requiring higher-density 10GbE hardware previously not offered by the Agilent N2X product line.

This melding of the N2X and Ixia product lines fulfills the promise of Ixia's FUSION program announced in conjunction with the acquisition of the Agilent N2X platform, the company asserts.

Deutsche Telekom is using IxN2X to perform Layer 2-3 testing of its network backbone under high traffic conditions, as well as to scale up traffic levels to see how the network performs under stressful load conditions. Ixia's NGY emulates Internet-scale routing topologies and traffic profiles, proving that Deutsche Telekom's network scales successfully without degradation in performance.

"Migrating to Ixia's next-generation NGY load modules allows us to qualify and test QoS with large scale routers before putting them into our live network," said Peter Pipping, vice president, system qualification of DT's Technical Engineering Center. "The NGY modules can be used with our existing IxN2X software and scripts, so integration was seamless."

DT and Ixia also recently conducted joint 100 Gigabit Ethernet tests (see "Ixia, Deutsche Telekom partner for 100G pre-deployment test").

The just-released NGY is the next generation of Ixia's IxYukon load module family. Ixia asserts the IxYukon family of load modules is the industry's highest density 10G traffic generation line and offers complete Layer 2-7 packet generation, routing emulation, and application testing. NGY modules, in conjunction with an XM12 chassis, provide up to ninety-six 10GbE ports of testing power.

Ixia acquired Agilent's N2X product line in October 2009. (For more on the acquisition, see this video interview on the Lightwave Channel.) The FUSION program was introduced to ensure that customer investments were protected, and that IxN2X customers would have access to Ixia 10GbE hardware for use in high-scale performance testing.
