Deviser Instruments debuts with test sets for wireless tower applications

Newly minted test and measurement company Deviser Instruments, a joint-venture partnership with Deviser Electronics, has used the IWCS conference to introduce its Profiler line. The systems identify network problems more quickly (often in 250 microseconds, according to the company) and with high accuracy, Deviser asserts. The Profiler line therefore speeds the efficient deployment of cell sites, the company adds.

The Profiler line is designed to accommodate the fact that cell site networks may require a mix of RF coaxial cable, fiber-optic cable, Ethernet mobile backhaul, and complex RF signaling. The architectures can range to include remote radio heads (RRH) and distributed antenna systems (DAS), among other small-cell alternatives. Most of these are fiber-based.

At the heart of the new line are the SpectrumPROFILER E8400B and E8600B Spectrum Analyzers. The handheld, battery-operated E8400B (9 kHz to 4.0 GHz) and E8600B (9 kHz to 6.0 GHz) perform spectrum, complex-signal, and interference analysis. The units feature what Deviser asserts is industry-leading sensitivity (DANL) and phase-noise performance at -158 dBm and -90 dBc/Hz (1 kHz offset), respectively, as well as a fast sweep mode that offers sweeps of 250 microseconds. The E8400B/E8600B therefore can quickly identify small, transient signals that otherwise might go undetected, Deviser says.

Optional measurement modes for the two instruments include interference analysis, coverage mapping (indoor and outdoor), and LTE testing.

Rounding out the Profiler line is a pair of RF/optical cable and antenna analyzers. The handheld SitePROFILER E7000L RF/Optic Cable & Antenna Analyzer is designed for tower crews, contractors and installers who need coverage of 2 MHz to 4.4 GHz for installing, deploying, and maintaining wireless networks. With a battery life of 8 hours, the unit enables tower teams to work all day on a single charge, according to Deviser. It is designed to protect against stray RF signals at active sites, which ensures accurate, repeatable measurements, the company adds. In addition to traditional RF sweep measurements, the E7000L can be configured to test fiber-based feedlines as well.

The companion SitePROFILER E7000B RF/Optic Cable & Antenna Analyzer is designed to support deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting wireless networks. Covering 2 MHz to 4.4 GHz as well, the handheld unit adds both speed and fiber scope. The instruments' sweep measurements include a fault location sweep speed of 1.15 ms. This capability saves time and enables faster and easier determination of cable feedline faults and intermittent signals, the company says. It also is designed to minimize stray RF signals to improve measurement accuracy.

It also can be used with both coax and fiber-based feedlines. The fiber capabilities include a fiber scope for fiber-optic connector inspection.
