Sunrise Telecom adds STM-16 testing capabilities to SunSet SDH product line

Feb. 20, 2003
February 20, 2003--Sunrise Telecom Inc. today announced the addition of STM-16 support to its SunSet SDH, a field instrument for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of global metro access networks.

Sunrise Telecom Inc., provider of service verification equipment for telecommunications and cable TV networks, today announced the addition of STM-16 support to its SunSet SDH, a field instrument for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of global metro access networks. The integration of data rates from 2 Mbits/sec to 2.5 Gbits/sec in a single unit--along with support for the multiple protocols and services found in metro, access, and mobile networks-leads to more comprehensive, cost-effective, and efficient network testing, explain company representatives.

With support for ten different electrical and optical rates, the SunSet SDH is well-suited for the metro's STM-16 ring network and its tributaries. This handheld unit contains a comprehensive suite of optical network tests, including optical power measurement, SDH performance analysis, overhead and alarm monitoring, APS (Automatic Protection Switch) testing, and SDH pointer testing. ATM traffic generation and monitoring round out the SunSet SDH's test features for metro optical rings. In addition to testing high-speed optical links, the SunSet SDH features service and protocol testing--voice, ISDN, Frame Relay, SS7, and V.5x. The same platform tests network traffic, voice/signal quality, and protocol for mobile services, including the international GSM and GPRS standards.

This release marks the debut of Sunrise's next-generation handheld chassis design. This latest design enhances the ruggedness of the chassis by incorporating a strength-enhancing inner material, with an impact-absorbing outer layer.
