FiberQA expands AVIT fiberscope line with probe-style AVIT-BP and AVIT-RH

FiberQA says it has added probe-style fiberscopes to its AVIT line of fiber-optic connector inspection systems. The AVIT-BP targets backplane applications and the AVIT-RH addresses remote head requirements. As is the case with other members of the AVIT family the automated probe-style fiberscopes feature automated end-face cleaning.

The units will accommodate multi-ferrule connectors such as VITA 66 and MIL-38999 and are designed to provide portable inspection capabilities that leverage FiberQA's AVIT software and reach connectors in confined spaces. Technicians can perform inspection and cleaning of ferrules and connectors without removing them planes and ships in military applications, according to the company.

"Almost 15 years ago, the AVIT platform introduced a level of automation that enabled significant labor savings and increased throughput in telecom markets, reducing test times from 12-24 hours to under an hour," asserted Doug Wilson, founder and CTO of FiberQA. "By repackaging the technology into very compact units such as the BP and RH, we enable the use of the patented integrated inspection and cleaning in a wider range of applications in both the manufacturing and field maintenance arenas. These are compact systems that go to the part under test, rather than bringing the part to the AVIT."

The automation features enable technicians without specialized optical inspection training to complete other tasks while monitoring the inspection progress. Automation also produces more reliable results, FiberQA adds. The fiberscopes also archive test result date for auditing and provide easy to read reports.

FiberQA will highlight the new systems, as well as other members of the AVIT line, in Booth #480 at ECOC 2017 in Gothenburg, Sweden from September 18-20.
