EXFO FTBx-5255 Optical Spectrum Analyzer derives OSNR of coherent transmission signals

EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO) (TSX: EXF) declares that its newly released FTBx-5255 Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA) module can offer optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) measurements in fiber-optic networks using coherent transmission technology. The OSA will perform such measurements on live networks, obviating the need to interrupt client services.

EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO) (TSX: EXF) declares that its newly released FTBx-5255 Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA) module can offer optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) measurements in fiber-optic networks using coherent transmission technology. The OSA will perform such measurements on live networks, obviating the need to interrupt client services.

The FTBx-5255 will measure OSNR on fiber networks that use polarization multiplexed coherent transmission at rates of 100, 200, and 400 Gbps, EXFO says. The company foresees service providers, internet content providers, and data center managers leveraging the OSA module to measure OSNR from 10 to 400 Gbps in a variety of applications. These include those that use O-band pluggables and L-band transceivers as well as those that require CWDM spectral analysis, among others.

EXFO also expects network equipment manufacturers will find the optical spectrum analyzer useful by their system verification and testing groups.

"Customers have repeatedly expressed a need for a non-intrusive way of measuring OSNR on high-speed networks, to ensure they're meeting customer expectations for quality of service," said Stéphane Chabot, EXFO's vice president, test and measurement. "Our new portable optical spectrum analyzer equips service providers, internet content providers, and NEMs for testing live networks, saving them time and significantly reducing operating expenses while making troubleshooting faster and better. No one else can offer them the ability to address all OSA testing applications with a single module."

To meet the wide variety of applications for which the module may be used, EXFO has designed the FTBx-5255 to be compatible with its FTB-2, FTB-2 Pro, and FTB-4 Pro portable test platforms as well as in its LTB-8 platform for rackmount and lab applications.
