Sizing up the convergence opportunity

Nov. 21, 2025

Service providers, including multiple service operators (MSOs) and telecommunications companies (telcos), recognize that offering customers converged services is crucial to long-term business success. An ideal scenario is to obtain and maintain a competitive advantage over rivals for the converged wireline and wireless service business.

Both cable operators and telcos are moving fast on the converged opportunity. Cable operators like Charter and Comcast are moving fast on enhancing not only their all-fiber and DOCSIS 4.0 systems that enable delivery of these services on a large scale over the long term, but also a mobile play that offers greater choice and convenience. Likewise, traditional telcos like AT&T and Verizon, which have seen an uptick in customers purchasing mobile bundles in their fiber broadband markets, hope to enhance that further through their acquisitions of Frontier and Lumen’s consumer fiber business could further that trend.

In this new research brief, Lightwave and our sister publication ISE analyzed the convergence trends we gathered from 132 industry insiders from national service providers, regional service providers, international providers and cable operators.
