Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) has completed the rollout of Xfinity Mobile across all of its markets. The company first announced the service in April and began rolling it out in July, starting in Oregon and southwest Washington.
The service is based on Verizon's (NYSE:VZ) 4G LTE network and Comcast's 18 million WiFi hotspots. The use of WiFi, both in and out of the home, is intended to save customers money by reducing their cellular data use. Comcast says Xfinity Mobile can save most consumers 30% on their wireless bill compared to other providers.
"We created a unique mobile experience that’s simple and saves customers money by connecting to our nationwide WiFi network, and allows them to only pay for the data they use,” said Greg Butz, president of Xfinity Mobile. “Now that we’re available across all of our distribution platforms, including our retail locations in all of our markets, we look forward to introducing even more customers to Xfinity Mobile.”
Available to all Xfinity Internet customers, the service includes up to five lines with unlimited nationwide talk and text, and no line access fees. Two data plans are available, Unlimited and By the Gig, and customers can switch between them at will. Available devices include smartphones from Apple, Samsung and LG.
