AT&T recently completed its acquisition of Lumen’s consumer fiber assets. We'd like you to let us know what implications you think will arise from AT&T completing its purchase of Lumen’s consumer fiber business.
AT&T, which continues to see its fiber base rise, is keen to expand it within its traditional wireline territory and beyond through acquisitions such as Lumen and its Gigapower initiative. The company plans to expand its fiber footprint to 40 million locations by 2025 and over 45 million by 2030, supported by the Lumen fiber asset acquisition.
Its end game is simple: increase subscribers who purchase bundles of fiber broadband and its 5G wireless service. AT&T noted in its fourth quarter earnings call that its fiber convergence rate increased by 200 basis points year-over-year, highlighting the success of fiber and 5G bundling strategies.
This comes at a time when cable operators, notably Comcast and Charter, have been aggressively entering the mobile market and have controlled the majority of U.S. mobile customer growth in recent quarters.
