Poll: Corning’s multibillion-dollar fiber deal with Amazon
In this new poll, Lightwave is asking you to share your thoughts on how Corning’s latest deal with Amazon could affect smaller fiber broadband providers’ ability to procure fiber.
This deal reflects the reality that hyperscalers have deep pockets and relationships with large fiber manufacturers, allowing them to aggregate large amounts of fiber cable that smaller regional provider can’t compete with.
While the Amazon-Corning deal highlights accelerating demand for fiber, it also exacerbates two key issues: a shortage of skilled installation crews and a limited supply of fiber cables.
It’s not a complete loss. Corning’s move to manufacture the cable in North Carolina forgoes dependence on international supply, which could create a more predictable timeline for service providers that have multi-year fiber broadband builds planned
