Poll: How will Marvell’s acquisition of Lumentum impact the AI data center market?
Marvell just confirmed it is buying Lumentum for $115 billion in a deal centered on the emerging shift in data centers away from copper-based connectivity as they accelerate the move toward optical technologies to support emerging AI applications.
The acquisition, expected to close in 2028, will expand the combined company’s total addressable market to $550 billion.
Counterpoint Research noted in a research note that Marvell’s acquisition of Lumentum gives Marvell one part of the optical stack it did not make: the laser, plus the indium phosphide (InP) fabs behind it.
