Lumos Networks extends gigabit broadband across its Virginia RLEC footprint

Lumos Networks Corp. (NASDAQ:LMOS) says it now offers its Gigabit Fast gigabit broadband service across all of its RLEC fiber to the premises (FTTP) footprint. The extension enables the communications services provider to offer 1-Gbps broadband to its residential and small business customers in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.

The extended rollout follows a pair of smaller deployments. Lumos began with a gigabit broadband offering to customers in the Alleghany Highlands region of Virginia in the summer of 2015. Earlier this year, it announced similar services to customers in Botetourt County, VA (see "Lumos Networks offers second gigabit broadband FTTP service in Virginia"). This latest deployment adds gigabit services the Waynesboro/Augusta County market and development properties located in the Lynchburg area, one of its edge-out RLEC broadband markets. In all, the new deployment adds nearly 20,000 premises to the Lumos Gigabit Fast footprint.

"I am very proud of the fact that not only is Lumos Networks the first service provider of any kind to offer 1-gigabit internet speeds in our RLEC markets, it is also the first to offer gigabit Internet speeds across its entire RLEC footprint," said Diego Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of the residential and small business segment for Lumos Networks.

"We continue to observe a growing demand for higher speeds to reliably access various data and over the top video content from customers who are using more internet enabled devices than ever before," Anderson added. "This gigabit product delivers superior Internet speeds to accommodate these evolving bandwidth intensive applications with the fastest speeds and reliability via a fiber infrastructure."

The Lumos says it will offer Gigabit Fast Internet via tiered promotional pricing points starting at $99.95 per month for residential consumers and $129.95 per month for small businesses.
