Huawei’s Cloud Fabric to support China Mobile’s private cloud resource pool

Huawei said it will deploy its CloudFabric to support China Mobile’s construction of a private cloud resource pool for data centers in Hohhot and Harbin. Phase-I of China Mobile's private cloud resource pool was finished in 2016. The Phase-II Stage-I project will be the world's largest OpenStack resource pool once completed, Huawei attests. Huawei's CloudFabric will be deployed in the Phase-II Stage-I project for the Hohhot and Harbin data centers following the Phase-I project for the Harbin data center completion.

According to Huawei, China Mobile relies on cloud computing as an important strategy, and uses private cloud primarily to deliver cloud-based infrastructure services for business platforms, IT support systems, and other internal IT systems. China Mobile needs a larger resource pool, as its current five private cloud resource pools are not sufficient for meeting its growing resource demand, says Huawei.

To meet the multiple complex service requirements while increasing data center equipment utilization, its necessary for the scale and efficiency of the resource pool to be balanced. According to Huawei, services must be deployed across points of delivery (PODs) to enable multi-vendor service interconnection. O&M data center costs must also be minimized through virtualized services and networks management.

Huawei says its CloudFabric aligns with China Mobile's POD and multi-tier Spine-Leaf network architecture. Resource network deployment can be automated to offer reliable forwarding services for various businesses by introducing distributed gateways, SDN data center interconnect, and other crucial technologies.

According to Huawei, introducing a three-segmented Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) design and controller northbound API integration with the cloud management platform make it possible to provide a standard interface for multiple POD services and coordinate service deployment. CloudFabric supports flexible definitions for whether cross-VPC data flows can pass through firewalls, depending on various services’ security level requirements, the company adds.

CloudFabric will also provide SDN network O&M tools for topology management, rapid fault locating, and statistical analysis, enabling visualization of topology management between application, logical, and physical networks, connectivity testing and fault locating at the VXLAN level, along with bandwidth customization and VXLAN traffic analysis in an OpenStack environment, says Huawei.
