Submarine network optical transport technology supplier Xtera says it will supply optical network systems for the upcoming ARBR submarine network. Developed jointly by Seaborn Networks and the Werthein Group, the 2,700-km open system will link Argentina and Brazil.

The ARBR submarine cable will feature four fiber pairs and an initial capacity of 48 Tbps (see "Seaborn Networks, Grupo Werthein to connect Argentina and Brazil via submarine cable"). It also will be designed to enable onward connectivity to New York via Seaborn's Seabras-1 undersea cable, to enable the interconnection of that city with such other financial centers as Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. The ARBR submarine network project is fully funded and on what Xtera termed "an accelerated implementation schedule."

Xtera says it will supply submarine repeaters with a hybrid EDFA-Raman design as well as the company's Open Systems Gateway. The latter will enable Seaborn Networks and its customers the freedom to choose their preferred terminal supplier, the company asserts. Xtera also will supply the power feed equipment and a network management system.
