Bluebird Network says it will offer its first customer-facing 100G diverse circuits along two existing fiber routes connecting a metropolitan center to a rural Missouri area. The company has not named either location, but says the circuits total 200G, and installation on the circuits has been completed.
Bluebird Network connects rural areas to major cities by delivering high bandwidth to urban and rural areas in the Midwest. Its new circuits will meet customers' growing need for high-capacity broadband, affirms the company. Additionally, Bluebird Network's fiber-optic infrastructure links to the Bluebird Underground data center in Springfield, MO.
"The deployment of customer-facing 100G services shows how the growing need for high-capacity broadband is increasing as more devices require high-speed connections," said Michael Morey, Bluebird Network president and CEO. "Bluebird Network had the foresight to upgrade our network to be 100G capable so that when the customer need arose, Bluebird could respond and deliver the service to the customer quickly."
In 2014, Bluebird Network acquired the underground data center and announced plans for three expansions, the first of which was finished in 2016. In March, Bluebird Network began expanding the collocation facility with the addition of 4,700 square feet of white space (see "Bluebird Network adds 4,700 square feet of white space to underground data center"). An eventual third expansion will add approximately 7,000 square feet of white space, attests Bluebird Network.
With headquarters in Columbia, MO, the fiber-optic network company has more than 6,000 fiber route miles of high-speed broadband and fiber-optic connections. The Bluebird network has over 135 points of presence (PoPs) across the Midwest as well, including Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Tulsa, Omaha, Des Moines, and Memphis.
"Bluebird Network provides an expansive network and state-of-the-art technology," added Morey. "Our talented network team is able to recognize and avoid obstacles and implement new technologies quickly. For example, Bluebird Network has future plans to move toward a 400G core network."
