Jabil AOC Technologies jumps into coherent 100G/200G CFP2-DCO optical transceivers

AOC Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jabil Inc. (NYSE: JBL), has decided to expand from its base as a provider of design, manufacturing, and test instruments, further into the coherent optical transceiver market. The company used OFC 2019 in San Diego this week to launch a family of 100G/200G CFP2-DCO pluggable modules.

AOC Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jabil Inc. (NYSE: JBL), has decided to expand from its base as a provider of design, manufacturing, and test instruments, further into the coherent optical transceiver market. The company used OFC 2019 in San Diego this week to launch a family of 100G/200G CFP2-DCO pluggable modules.

The optical transceivers leverage silicon photonics expertise from Elenion Technologies, specifically Elenion’s Coherent Silicon Transmitter and Receiver (CSTAR) silicon photonics engine. The two companies previously had collaborated on CFP2-ACO packaging technology. AOC Technologies says they have designed the DCO modules themselves and are manufacturing them using its internal optical assembly and manufacturing resources.

The CFP2-DCO use a 16-nm CMOS digital signal processor (DSP) that positions the device to accommodate 100/200-Gbps metro, data center interconnect, and long-haul DWDM applications as well as 40-km 100-Gbps point-to-point requirements. The modules should begin sampling in the middle of this year.
